With winter hitting the Denver area early this year, we wanted to help you protect more than just your broken heart. Take a peek at our physical therapists top 5 shoveling tips to keep your body pain free over the winter months!

  • Always warm up! Cold muscles + cold weather = searing pain!

    • It is always important to wear the appropriate gear, but it is even more important to make sure your joints and muscles are limbered up first too!

  • Maintain a proper grip and posture.

    • Keep your hands apart for leverage

    • Keep your feet wide

    • Keep your back straight and bend at the knees

  • Pick the right tool

    • Snow shovel vs. Snow blower?

  • Take rest breaks!

    • You don’t have to wait for the sun to come out, pace yourself to avoid overexertion

    • Stop if you feel any pain, dizziness or shortness of breath!
